Spokane Golf Trip Guide: Public Courses, Beginners & Short Visits

Choose a Spokane golf day by the time you have, your confidence on the course, and where you are staying. These are planning suggestions, not a ranking based on firsthand course testing.

Public courses: start with the operator

The City runs Indian Canyon, The Creek at Qualchan, Downriver, and Esmeralda. Use the official City booking page for their tee sheets. County choices include MeadowWood, Liberty Lake, and Latah Creek; follow the County golf page for booking and notices. Public access does not mean a guaranteed walk-up tee time.

For beginners: a lesson before a full round

Esmeralda is a useful starting point: the City describes it as popular with beginners. Ask about forward tees and a quieter time rather than assuming a busy weekend round will be comfortable. The City offers professional instruction at all four courses. For more preparation, read our first-round guide and simple etiquette guide.

Driving ranges: choose the practice session, not just the course

Downriver is an option for a range visit without a full round. MeadowWood has an aquatic driving range, practice bunker, and practice green. Call first about opening hours, ball sales, instruction, and whether the facilities are available without a tee time.

Liberty Lake caution: the County still publishes a range-construction notice with an estimated completion date that has passed. That is not confirmation of today’s closure or reopening. Call 509-255-6233 before planning a range-only visit. Read the operator’s notice.

A short Spokane visit: nine holes or a range session

The Plains, formerly The Fairways, now advertises nine-hole daily-fee golf on the West Plains, with practice facilities and the Plains Public House. Its official site is the place to confirm a tee time and the day’s rate. Do not use old 18-hole descriptions when planning your visit.

If you have less time, choose a practice session instead of squeezing in a round. Allow separately for check-in, travel, warm-up, and changing weather; no course can guarantee your finishing time.

Before you book

  • Compare location, access, and facilities in our course finder.
  • Check official booking and status links, not an old quoted price.
  • Ask about club rental, carts, cancellation terms, and current conditions.
  • Private clubs are not interchangeable with public daily-fee courses: confirm guest eligibility directly.
